Mount Takao is a popular nature getaway located just outside central Tokyo, offering scenic hiking trails, cultural sites, and panoramic views. Standing at 599 meters, it’s easily accessible and suitable for hikers of all levels.
The most popular trail leads to the summit in about 90 minutes, passing through lush forests and Yakuoin Temple, a sacred site with centuries of history. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji from the top.
A cable car and chair lift are also available for an easier ascent. Mount Takao is especially beautiful in autumn with colorful foliage and is a perfect day-trip escape from the city.
